Fort Adams Wedding (Newport, RI): Mike & Julie

Everything was handmade at this wedding!

We’ve know Julie for years through our work with her at The New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island. Julie is the special events coordinator there, and we’ve photographed giant weddings, small ones, events in the blinding sun, pouring rain and even an epic blizzard or two. Julie is awesome. She’s calm and organized and amidst any and all chaos… so much fun to be around. There’s no higher honor then to be asked by a friend, or a professional colleague to photograph for them, so when Julie called last year as she (finally) planned her own wedding, I made sure we cleared our schedule  so we could make it happen for her and her amazing fiancé Mike!

Mike & Julie

Mike’s Dad is an engineer who spent 40 years designing/manufacturing industrial equipment. Mike’s titanium ring was actually MACHINED by his dad for him… which is definitely a first for us! As luck would have it, Mike’s dad also had a small ring bag from BANGKOK, THAILAND… that said “Julie’s Gems” on it. How perfect!

Yellow was the color of the day! Mike & his brother; yellow monkey fist cufflinks, Sayles Livingston flowers with a family broach, and a VERY happy Julie getting ready.

First Look

First kiss after first look.

Mike was very proud of his socks. As he should be!

Ahhh, Newport Rhode Island, so many beautiful places.

A quick visit to their alma mater Salve Regina.

Had to include at least one Bellevue Mansion in these shots.

View past Newport from Fort Adams. A spectacular day!

Here comes the bride!

Mike seeing his future wife walking down the aisle escorted by her mother.

Details were everywhere. “It’s not cold” shawls were available but not needed until late into the night.

Exquisite location.

Kiss!

Ceremony over! Time to party!

Reception Details. So much thought went into everything. My favorite was the homemade apple butter as wedding favors!

Julie & Mike personalized everything. Hand stamped napkins, beer koozies, CD, and the all important Dark & Stormy signature drink for all the sailors.

Before the first dance, Julie & Mike warmed up… and then made their grand entrance.

The tent was incredible. Lots of details.

Toasts by Julie’s mom and Mike’s brother made everyone cry. It also was a nice way for me to learn more about Mike… namely, that besides being an upstanding man, he likes to quote Caddyshack, “which is nice”. We approve!

Just a beautiful moment: Mike’s dance with his mother. Oh, the love is so obvious. So beautiful.

Cake cutting.

Reception insanity.

For dessert, personal pies!!!

A slow northern exposure of the ocean and the Newport Bridge in the background.

An amazing day! Thank you! I am so happy I got to be there to support you both!
